What you can expect during your chemical peel procedure.Chemical Peel > Before Surgery > During Surgery > After Surgery > PhotosYour chemical peel will be performed in a physicians office or an outpatient surgical facility, depending upon your preference.
There are several types of chemical peel techniques: the light chemical peel and medium chemical peel are used to remove superficial wrinkles and discolorations; the deep chemical peel is used for more severe conditions.
In all chemical peel procedures, you will be given medications to relax you and relieve any discomfort you might feel. These medications will be administered a short time before your surgery.
Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed with an agent that removes excess oils, your eyes and hair will also be protected.
A small applicator will be used to apply the chemical peel to one small area of your face. Excess solution will then be wiped off and the procedure will be repeated on other areas of your face with the exception of the lips and eyes.
You might feel a light burning sensation when the chemical peel solution is applied, but it will quickly diminish. Bandaging may be required for a deep chemical peel but is not used with the other chemical peels.
A chemical peel procedure can last from 20 minutes to one hour or more depending on the extent of chemical peel surgery.
